There are photo editors and then there are photo editors that offer social media integration where your art and skills can be easily highlighted. Among these, VSCO cam is definitely among the best that have been on the market for sometime now.

VSCO, pronounced vis-ko, offers a few options, all of which can be a bit confusing and annoying for someone using the app for the first time. But once you get used to it, there is no going back. Once you login to the app you are immediately introduced to a few options on the main menu, including VSCO Home and VSCO Grid.

Home features images and artistic captures by other VSCO users globally, whom you can choose to follow, while Grid features curated images that have captured the attention of the VSCO team. While there are some amazing captures on the Grid, I have for some reason, not really been interested or impressed of late. I prefer the library, where I get to add my images, edit and save them.

You can add more than one photo, or take a pic directly from the camera and the begin processing. The tools available for editing are pretty standard, and offer everything from the crop, to adjusting of colour, saturation, shadows, depth. The interface is pretty simplistic, offering a minimal amount of buttons and visual cues as to what options and features are available

. However, one of the reasons VSCO has become such a major hit with users is this – the simplicity is appealing, offering a kind of bohemian setting and feel to the whole app. One of the best features of VSCO are the filters, and while the free filter packs are not as expansive as perhaps Retrica, I have found that the tones and colours in the VSCO filter pack are definitely of a higher quality. The app offers a Journal mode too, where you can view collections, or even add your own. VSCO is free to download and offers options to follow popular accounts and users. The app is available on both app stores, for devices running iOS7 and up, and Android 4.0 and up.
